Description
Speaker: Kathleen Logan, MS, MA
Kathleen sounds like a woman who can’t keep a job! Actually, marriage to a naval aviator meant frequent moves and adjustments. She has been an elementary school teacher, navy officer, counselor for Navy Family Advocacy, college instructor, coordinator of Baptist Hospital’s Employee Assistance Program, and published author. She conducts seminars for businesses, civic organizations, and nonprofit groups on such topics as stress management, everyday courage, team building, effective communication, and dealing with changes and transitions. Education-wise, Kathleen has a bachelor’s in education from the University of Michigan, a master’s in Management from the Navy Postgraduate School, and a master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from the U.S. International University in San Diego. Her articles have been published in Toastmaster Magazine, On the Coast, and Council on Aging of West Florida’s Coming of Age. Her proudest achievement was the publication of “The Emotional Cycle of Deployment” in Naval Institute Proceedings in 1987. Reprints of it continue to be used throughout the U.S. military services, in Canada and Britain, and the article has been translated into several foreign languages. In 2010, she published the book Second Blooming for Women: Growing a Life that Matters after Fifty, written with co-author Dr. Betsy Smith. In 2015, she published her book Women’s Wisdom: Pass It On!, which has received several awards. Kathleen has a strong commitment to service. During hurricane recovery after Ivan, Dennis, and Katrina, she was volunteer Chair of the Resources Coordinating Committee which led to employment at United Way as Hurricane Recovery Grants Manager. She spent six years on the Big Brothers Big Sisters board, and more than ten on Council on Aging of West Florida, including as Chair in 2019 and 2020. Between 2016 and 2018, she volunteered at Pathways for Change, teaching life skills to seven groups of women recovering from drug and alcohol addiction. After the George Floyd killing and attendant protests, she established Together Pensacola: Building Our Community (ToP) in June 2020, a citizens’ group that works to improve race relations locally. Kathleen was presented with the Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award in 2020 by Marquis Who’s Who.
